Once August arrives I know our summer is unofficially over. I don’t even like to think about it, but it’s true. Football season starts taking all of our evenings. August is the busiest month for farming. When we do have a free evening though, I always want to have a barbecue. We have to soak up every last drop of summer as possible.

It seems to me that baked beans should be a staple at every barbecue. Beans and barbecues are like peanut butter and jelly! Anyway, I avoid turning my oven on in the summer. It’s just too darn hot. I decided to make baked beans in the crockpot the other day. I made them before church and let ’em go until we got home.
They couldn’t have been easier. The flavor? Killer! Kind of like the BEST baked beans ever! I’m partial to my mom’s classic recipe and I loved this one, so that’s really saying something!
How to make Baked Beans
Crock Pot baked bean with canned beans is the easiest recipe in the world to make! You pretty much throw everything in the slow cooker and let it go!
The most time-consuming part of this recipe is frying and crumbling the bacon. My time-saving tip is this whenever I fry bacon I fry LOTS of it at once and save the leftovers for adding to recipes like this!
Oh, and if you want smoked baked beans you can use this same recipe and put them on the smoker right along with your meat. Most of the time I smoke meat at 250-300 degrees. This recipe can be cooked uncovered at that temperature for 2-3 hours.
Can you freeze Baked Beans?
Yes! Baked beans freeze really well and is a great option for leftover baked beans! They can be kept in the freezer for up to four months!
When you’re ready to serve the beans thaw them in the fridge. Then reheat them in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans
- 2 15 oz cans pork and beans
- 6 slices bacon
- 2 Tbsp mustard
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp chili powder more to taste
- 2 Tbsp cider vinegar
- dash hot sauce optional
- Fry and crumble bacon.
- Add all ingredients to slow cooker.
- Stir until mixed together.
- Cook on low for 2-3 hours.
