Cheesy Pesto Monkey Bread is such a fun appetizer or is delicious served with soup and salads! It’s basically a cheese bomb, except this recipe is so much easier to make PLUS it’s tossed in savory basil pesto!
Thanks to Rhodes for sponsoring todays post. As always, all opinions are my own.
Do you call bread recipes like this monkey bread? Pull apart bread? Who knows why it’s called monkey bread in the first place? Not me!
I’ll tell you what I do know about it…my boys LOVE pulling pieces of bread from the monkey bread! It’s way more fun than slicing a loaf of bread because you get to dig right in with your fingers and what boy doesn’t love that?
Ingredients needed to make Cheesy Pesto Monkey Bread
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Obviously monkey bread can be made with biscuits, but it’s a million times better with yeast bread.
Who has time to make homemade bread? Not me! Probably no you! Take the easy route and use Rhodes frozen rolls! They taste just like homemade and you’ll still have plenty of time leftover to enjoy your day! Promise!
Here’s what you’ll need to make Cheesy Garlic Pesto Monkey Bread
- 10 Rhodes Rolls
- Butter
- Basil Pesto
- Garlic
- Salt and pepper
- Mozzarella cheese
- Parmesan cheese
Can I make homemade pesto?
YES! I grow LOTS of basil and parsley in my garden every summer specifically to make pesto! I freeze it to use throughout the year. It’s the BEST! Check out my Basil Pesto recipe to get all the details!
Although I’m partial to my homemade pesto you can surely purchase prepared pesto and you’ll love it!
How to make monkey bread
Making this monkey bread is almost as easy as making pesto on bread!
- Thaw Rhodes rolls only until they are soft enough to cut into quarters with scissors.
- Slice butter and set it in 9” x 9” pan. Melt butter.
- Add pesto, garlic paste, salt and pepper to baking dish. Stir.
- Cut rolls into quarters and set in baking dish.
- Toss to coat with basil butter mixture.
- Sprinkle with grated mozzarella cheese. Gently toss.
- Sprinkle tops of bread with grated parmesan cheese.
- Cover with greased plastic wrap. Let rise until doubled in size.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes at 375 degrees.
What can I serve my monkey bread with?
This bread is best served while it’s still nice and warm…straight from the oven! We love it served with Steakhouse Shrimp Salad, Lemon Pesto Pasta Salad with Grilled Chicken, Fresh Creamy Tomato Soup, Cheesy Chicken Potato Soup, Make Ahead Ravioli Casserole, and pretty much any other Italian food!
It’s delicious as is but dipping it in warm marinara sauce takes it over the top!
What’s happening on the farm?
We’re between crops so we have a minute to catch our breath. Justin promised me he’d clean the farm up this year and thank heavens because I have to look the other way when I’m wandering around out there.
The other day I was working in my yard and Carson beckoned me! Apparently he needed help replacing the door in his bull wagon. I’m not sure if he really needed help or just wanted company. Either way, it took two hours longer to mow the lawn than it should of, BUT I got to hang out with one of my favorite peeps so it’s all good! The lawn can wait!

It’s summer and even though between crops is our down time we’re still crazy busy. The last place I want to be is stuck in the kitchen. This is a perfect recipe for summer because it’s so easy to make and requires such little time to throw it together.
My family always gathers around for a minute when I make it and THAT is the very best part!

I’m just wondering if it is one head of garlic or one clove? I need to be told what to do 🙂
Amy Engberson says
Good catch! It’s supposed to be one garlic clove! And I actually like using Gourmet Gardens Garlic Paste https://amzn.to/2XXRk3X {affiliate link} even more than fresh garlic. It’s so handy to squeeze garlic out without having to peel and mince it, and it tastes and smells exactly as it would if I peeled it myself! I can’t recommend this product enough! Hopefully that helps!
