My sister in law first introduced me to these years ago and we fell in love with them! Of course, I asked for the recipe and I immediately became a bit overwhelmed when she first gave it to me because it was about a mile long. And it didn’t even have normal flour. I’m not a beginner baker and I had no idea what in the world that kind of flour even was.
Needless to say, I never tried them, but couldn’t seem to forget about them either.
She made them for us again and this time she Rhodes frozen bread dough! Thank heavens! No more weird flour I’d never heard of! No more kneading dough or hassling with anything that has to do with making homemade caramel cinnamon rolls!

All of a sudden I knew I they were going to become a staple around here!

How to make Caramel Rolls?
So, the first time she gave me this recipe the instructions included a lot of “just eyeball it”. Obviously it worked great for my sister in law, but not so good for me!
The other day I bugged her and asked her if she’d measure the ingredients for the caramel sauce so I could successfully make them and help all of you successfully make carmel rolls too! I tried it and they were spot on!

It’s also fun to add apples to turn these into caramel apple rolls.
Thaw Rhodes frozen dough and roll it out into a rectangle that’s about 1/2 inch thick. Spread butter on dough. Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Then top with grated or chopped apples. Roll up like a jelly roll. Cut into slices. Then follow the recipe from step 3.

Mine came odd. The topping was too soupy like watered down. It also looked curled. That is even doing a 1 to 1 ratio of cream and brown sugar. I was hoping more of a gooey caramel.

Hmmm. It’s hard to say what happened without being there? Did you use heavy cream? Half and half or whole milk doesn’t have enough fat content to make them set up. Were the rolls frozen rolls, or rolls from a can? That would make a difference too. They really are so amazing!
