Halloween is right around the corner and I feel like I’m not even close to being ready! My house is decorated and I’ve been whipping up plenty of pumpkin desserts like these Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Pumpkin Magic Bars, and the most fun Pumpkin Carrots ever!
When it comes to costumes I’m a party pooper! Not even kidding! My baby has been a bull rider since he was old enough to tell me what he wanted to be and I’m completely okay with it. All I have to do is pull is life jacket (bull riding vest) out of the boating tote, throw his cowboy hat on him, draw a mustache on him with my never used eyebrow pencil, and he’s off!
Now that my kids are older now so Halloween costumes aren’t such a big deal…thank heavens! Celebrating with festive orange and black food always makes the day feel like a holiday, and in my opinion it’s way more fun that wasting $$$ on costumes anyway!

This Easy Halloween Bundt Cake is seriously the easiest recipe in the world to whip together! If you can stir a cake mix together and open a can of frosting your totally qualified to make this cake! Don’t you love it?
What is the difference between food coloring and food coloring gel?
Food coloring gel is more concentrated than traditional food coloring. When using gel you will need less to get a bold color.
Food coloring gel has less liquid than traditional food coloring and that’s important when you’re making candies and some frosting.
Food coloring gel is the secret to baking this cake with vibrant black and orange layers. This food coloring gel set from Amazon has plenty of fun colors to get you started! Don’t be shy here, use enough to really get the bold colors you’re after.
Another little tip is that I added a few Tablespoons of cocoa to the cake batter that was supposed to be black in addition to adding plenty of black food coloring gel. Of course flavoring it like chocolate never hurt and thing! Besides that it helps darken the cake batter so it doesn’t need quite as much food gel to get that nice black cake layer. I used the same method when I was coloring the icing!
How to assemble Easy Halloween Bundt Cake
Using a white cake mix and follow the instructions on the back of the box to mix the cake together.
Once the cake is mixed take one cup of the cake batter and put it in a separate bowl. Remove one more cup of batter and add to another bowl. Color one cup of batter orange. Color one cup of batter black. Leave the remaining batter white.
This cake recipe is so easy you don’t even need to stir or swirl the layers as you add them to the bundt pan. Pour in the first layer, add the middle layer, then add the final layer and pop it in the oven! It will create perfect layers as it bakes! Easy as that!
Bake the cake as directed on the cake mix.
Can I use canned frosting to create icing drizzle?
You better believe it! How easy is this?
Microwave a can of white frosting in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds or until it’s drizzling consistency. Stir. Then use a spoon to drizzle icing over the cake. Divide remaining frosting in half and add orange food coloring to one part, and cocoa and black food coloring to the other part. Stir together and drizzle.
Be sure to put bundt cake on a cooling rack, and set the cooling rack on a baking sheet or over a piece of wax paper before drizzling icing over it. That makes clean up a breeze!

Easy Halloween Bundt Cake
- 1 white cake mix
- water, eggs, and oil listed on cake mix box
- 3 Tbsp. dark cocoa powder
- 1 16 oz. can white frosting
- orange food coloring gel
- black food coloring gel
- Halloween sprinkles
For the Cake
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a bundt pan with baking spray.
- Mix the cake according to directions on the box.
- Remove 1 cup of cake batter and put it in a separate bowl, and repeat with another cup of cake batter.
- Use food coloring gel to color one cup of cake batter orange. You will want it to be bold!
- Add two Tablespoons of cocoa to the second cup of cake batter. Stir. Add enough food coloring gel to color the batter black.
- Pour black cake batter in the bottom of prepared bundt pan. Next, pour white batter over black cake batter layer. No need to stir or swirl. Finally, pour orange cake batter over white cake batter layer. Once again, no stirring!
- Bake according to cake mix instructions.
- Let cool for about 10 minutes, then remove from pan and cool on a wire baking rack.
For the Icing
- Some people like more icing than others. If you don't just love icing you might want to only use a portion of the can. Or feel free to load it up!
- Once cake has completely cooled leave the cake on wire baking rack and set it over a cookie sheet or piece of waxed paper.
- Microwave can of frosting for about 10-15 seconds. Using a spoon drizzle desired amount over cake.
- Color about half of the remaining frosting orange. Drizzle over cake.
- Add about 1 Tablespoon of cocoa to the remaining frosting. Add black food coloring gel until you get the desired color of black frosting. If necessary microwave for a few more seconds until it's drizzling consistency. If icing is still too thick add a tiny bit of milk. Drizzle over cake.
- Sprinkle with Halloween sprinkles if desired. Let cool.
- Cut in slices and serve!
