Ingredients

For the sweet rolls

  • 2 loaves frozen white bread dough Rhodes white bread is my favorite
  • 8 ounces cream cheese room temperature
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup blueberry pie filling or blueberry jam

For the glaze/ frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 TBSP lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 TBSP heavy cream or milk
  • 1 TBSP butter room temperature

Instructions

How to make blueberry sweet rolls

  • Thaw bread dough according to package instructions. I like either thawing it in the fridge overnight. See my tip below for making them ahead of time.
  • Mix cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth. Use an electric mixer to make it easy. Set aside.
  • Roll thawed dough into a 12″x18″ rectangle, about 1/2 an inch thick.
  • Spread cream cheese mixture over the dough.
  • Spread blueberry sauce, or blueberry jam over cream cheese layer.
  • Roll the dough up jelly-roll style, starting with at the narrow end. Don’t roll too tightly or you’ll squeeze the blueberry sauce out.
  • Pinch the seams together.
  • Cut into rolls using floss or a sharp serrated knife. I usually make about 12-15 rolls.
  • Place rolls on greased, or parchment-lined, baking sheet.
  • Let rise in a warm spot until doubled, about an hour. Rising time will depend on room temperature.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
  • Cool and frost.

To make the lemon frosting

  • Mix powdered sugar, butter, lemon juice, and lemon zest together. If needed, add heavy cream to make it the right consistency.

Notes

Frosting: You can also use a can of prepared vanilla frosting. Add a Tablespoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of lemon zest if desired.
Cinnamon Roll Dough: Using frozen dough is quick and easy, but you can also make your favorite homemade cinnamon roll dough if you want to make them from scratch.
Blueberry Sauce: Feel free to use homemade blueberry sauce, or a blueberry jam instead of blueberry pie filling.
How to store: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
To make ahead: To make sweet rolls ahead of time, assemble the rolls, then place in the refrigerator overnight. Bake in the morning.
